Fascinating Cities of the World

The online lesson introduced the city of New Orleans, USA, which has a fascinating history of mixed cultures that have combined to create a unique blend of architecture, food, music and atmosphere. There are of course many unique and interesting cities in the world, including one of my favorites: Seville, Spain.

Seville was at different times in its history governed by the Romans, the Moors of North Africa, who were Muslim, and the Spanish Castilians, who were Christians. The result of these different rulers is a city with a unique blend of architecture. The city is also famous for flamenco music and dancing, as well as the lively and friendly temperament of its residents. I was lucky enough to spend two months in Seville, studying Spanish and enjoying the lifestyle of this amazing city!

You can read more about Seville here: Lonely Planet and Wikipedia.

Venice is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. The city has style and chic which you can’t compare with any other place in the world. Not only tourists but also inhabitants feel that time has stopped between this narrow streets and it’s still very generous to the city. The breathtaking views, fascinating architecture, typical Italian rumor, and excellent cuisine create the unique atmosphere that is so outstandingly praised in guide books and tour agencies . It’s difficult to decide if you should come here during stuffy summer or wet winter. Because each visit will be different and you will discover a new face of Venice. But you can’t bite it at one time, you have to reserve much more time for this place if you realy want to feel it.

Maybe my city is overrated but I am really happy that i could visit it. This is Paris. I always wanted to see Paris and when I finally had a chance to be there I couldn’t think about anything else. I was taking photos literally like crazy. I’ve got a lot of pictures of the same place from different positions. I visited The Arc de Triomphe. From the top I tried to recognise as many places as possible. Places or monuments which I read or learned about. Always when I watch films which were placed in Paris I wish I’ll be there once again.

Hi Agnieszka,

Thanks for the recommendation about Venice. I completely agree about how amazing it is. I’ve been to it twice: once on my own about ten years ago and then a couple of years ago with my wife.

I wish I had been able to spend more time there. I hope some day I can spend more time there, to see the different sides of the city as you said.

Hi Marta,

Paris is amazing. I wouldn’t at all say it’s overrated – some places deserve all the hype and Paris is one of them. Like you said, you already know so many of the places even before you go for the first time.
That’s great that you had such a wonderful time and I hope I can go back there sometime.
